Group Employee Benefits

Your benefits plan should be managed, not simply renewed.

Private Lane Advisory actively reviews, explains and manages employee benefits over time so business owners and administrators can make better-informed decisions about plan structure, renewal, employee support and relevant alternatives.

Review the plan throughout the year.

Formal review points sit inside an ongoing advisory relationship.

01

Plan in place

Coordinate implementation and communication.

02

Mid-year

Review plan questions, employee or administration issues, and business changes.

03

Pre-renewal

Approximately two months before renewal, adjusted to group needs and size.

04

Renewal

Review renewal terms, relevant alternatives and next steps.

Ongoing

Between formal reviews, support can include employee questions, education, administration support and plan changes as needed, depending on the engagement.

Plan structure + tradeoffs

Plan structure should reflect the business.

The right structure depends on the business, workforce and current plan. The review should make cost, coverage and plan-design tradeoffs easier to understand before changes are made.

Questions to review

Who needs what level of coverage?

Where do cost and coverage tradeoffs sit?

Do employee classes still reflect the business?

Where might HSA / Cost-Plus warrant discussion?

Common questions

Questions businesses ask about managing employee benefits.

What does an active benefits advisor review during the year?

PLA starts with the business, workforce, current plan, administration and objectives. During the year, the review can include plan questions and changes, available claims or experience information where relevant, plan structure, employee classes, cost/coverage tradeoffs and relevant alternatives. PLA's group model includes mid-year and pre-renewal review points, with timing adjusted to the group's needs and size.

Does changing advisors require changing the insurer or plan?

Not necessarily. An advisor change can be handled through an Advisor of Record process, and the current insurer or plan does not automatically need to change. The exact transition, timing and continuity depend on the specific situation. See Switching Advisors for the full process.

Can a benefits review guarantee lower premiums?

No. A review is intended to provide better context around the plan, renewal terms, assumptions, structure and relevant alternatives. It does not guarantee lower premiums, stable renewal costs or a cheaper option in every case.

How are employees supported after implementation?

Depending on the engagement, PLA can support employees through plain-language plan explanation, onboarding, updates, Q&A and other education formats. Recurring employee and administrator questions can also be brought back into ongoing plan support.
